Without question one of the most important features to a writer is helpful feedback. When you get feedback from friends and family it is biased. Someone that cares for you is not going to give you the brutal truth you need. Worse, you may get feedback that is not truthful. Concern that your feelings will be hurt and override the need you have to get truthful feedback.
So a place where you can get honest feedback on your writing can be of great benefit to an author. A good reviewer can point out the problems in your writing. Give you thoughts on how a storyline is developing. And provide you the constructive feedback that you have.
To test this we posted a story and a poem on FanStory.com. Both posts received a review about five minutes after it was posted. They both received a second review shortly after. We included spelling mistakes in both the poems and the stories along with grammar errors.
FanStory.com Reviews For The Poem
The reviews for the poem focused less on the spelling errors and more on the emotional impact of the poem. Both reviews were complimentary in nature. One review pointed out the spelling error and suggested the proper spelling. Both reviewers were very kind and supportive.
Reviews For The Story
